It is that time again for us to have a marathon. After the Lewa Marathon that took place on 30th June, 2018, Safaricom Athletics Series keeps rolling. Kisii Half Marathon scheduled to take place tomorrow, the 10th day of August, 2018, in Kisii Town. It’s from such opportunities that potential international athletes are discovered. Local athletes keep discovering their talents by actively participating in the marathon. Safaricom is active in hunting and nurturing talent. Could you be the one they are looking for?
“Over the years, the marathon has produced international athletes like Wesley Ochoro, Ruth Bosibori, Grace Momanyi and Edwin Mokua among others. This is why we take pride in associating ourselves with this marathon and hope to see more athletes being discovered,” said Charles Kare, Acting Director, Consumer Business, Safaricom. Kisii Half Marathon keeps growing each year as more locals keep embracing the platform provided by Safaricom.
A sponsorship of one million shillings was released towards this year’s Safaricom ‘s Athletics Series. This really goes a long way to ensuring smooth run of the marathon events. Good faith has grown that the activities are really a gem to the local community and country as a whole. The country boasting of international athletes like Wesley Ochoro, Ruth Bosibori, Grace Momanyi and Edwin Mogua is a gem. This is a clear indication that more of such marathons need to be embraced.
The 9th Kisii Half Marathon we will have defending champions Philes Ongori and Joseph Koech who will battle it out for this year’s title. Other notable names taking part in this event are former champion Grace Momanyi, Teresa Omosa and Mully Half Marathon champion, Sammy Nyokaye.
Winners of this marathon will walk away with KES100,000 each, first runners up will bag KES50,000, while third place finishers will get KES30,000.
